Elisabeth Smith Ford was the daughter of Clara Brackett Smith Spear and William Smith. Born in 1893, she grew up in Brackett House and attended Cornell College. After achieving her master’s degree from Columbia University, she began working for The New York Evening Telegram. She authored two books during her lifetime: No Hour of History and Amy Ferraby’s Daughter. She married Andrew Ford in 1935, though he died in 1937. Elisabeth deeded her childhood home, Brackett House, to Cornell College under the condition that her grade school teacher, Clara Blinks be allowed to reside there as long as she pleased. Elisabeth died May 31st, 1944.
