1930 Model A Ford. This was Virgil Crofter’s first car purchased new at Rude Auto in Cedar Rapids for $135. In the winter you put curtains on it. You had to wear heavy clothes in the winter. My dad was looking for me to have the smallest car to drive to high school in Mount Vernon. I could get 5 people in the front seat. I got four in the front passengers side and one on the driver’s side running board. The kids had to walk six or seven miles to school unless they could hitch a ride.
