Home of Mr. and Mrs. E. Ransom Ristine. In 1884 Cornell faculty created a commercial department that included courses in business education, bookkeeping, penmanship, shorthand and typing. In 1892 the faculty converted the commercial department into a new commercial school with its own principal. Edward Ransom Ristine, named to this position, held it until his retirement in 1917. (Cornell College: A Sesquicentennial History, 1853-2003, Vol. 1, Page 96) Ransom, a Cornell faculty member, was 100 years old at Cornell’s 100th anniversary.
