MINUTES OF THE MOUNT VERNON HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
March 26, 2025
The Historic Preservation Commission met March 26, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. at the LBC for a public meeting to meet representatives from JMT Company, who is preparing the new design guideline book for HPC. Commissioners present were Mary Evans, Duane Eash, Randy Brown, Sue Astley, Sherry Brayton, Mike Guerber, Edith Dawson and Guy Booth. Others present included Leigh Bradbury, head of Planning and Zoning for the City of Mount Vernon.
The purpose of the meeting was to have our first conference with representatives of JMT. Samantha Smith and Angela Jimenez are the representatives. Both are well experienced in working on design guidelines for historic preservation. They gave a thorough presentation regarding the schedule of the project, as well as indicating the elements of the design guideline book and how it will be completed. The schedule for the project is from this date into mid- December, 2025. It was a good session, as Samantha and Angela gave good insight as to what information they will have in the guideline booklet, but more importantly, continue to ask questions of the commission as to what we would like to see in the booklet. A future meeting will be held with these representatives, and also, there will be ample opportunity for additional feedback from the Commission.
Samantha and Angela spent March 26 in Mount Vernon touring the town, gathering information and taking pictures of structures in the historic districts. They are eager to get to work on the new design guidelines and have a good feeling for our community and what our revised guidelines should be. They will use the current book that was prepared by Ed Sauter and Dick Thomas as a reference and can incorporate some of the original drawings prepared by Ed Sauter into the new guideline book.
The Commission enjoyed the meeting and are impressed with the professionalism and quality of JMT and their personnel.
