MINUTES OF MOUNT VERNON HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
November 13, 2021
The Historic Preservation Commission met via Zoom on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 9:15 a.m. Commissioners present on Zoom were Leah Rogers, Suzette Astley, Mary Evans, Ed Sauter, Janet Budack, and Guy Booth. Also present was Steve Maurice.
The item on the agenda for today is a request for design review. Steve Maurice, who is the owner of the Ash house, which is the original home in the Ash Park Addition, is requesting approval of a new roof for the house. The house was severely damaged in the derecho, and has undergone substantial repair. The roof now needs to be done. Steve has done good research and has found an asphalt shingle that replicates what has been on the house, and fits well with the historic nature of the home. The house is located on the corner of 7th Street and 8th Avenue NW in the Ash Park Historic District. After review of the plans, Ed Sauter moved, and Leah Rogers seconded a motion to approve a certificate of appropriateness. The motion carried unanimously. Suzette will file the certificate of appropriateness with the City of Mount Vernon so the new roof can be completed.
