MINUTES OF MOUNT VERNON HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION

February 17, 2021

The Historic Preservation Commission met via Zoom on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. Members present on Zoom were Leah Rogers, Susan Hargus, Janet Budack, Ed Sauter, Mary Evans, Suzette Astley, Grace Chamberlain, Duane Eash, Angie Bauman Power and Guy Booth. Others present at the meeting were Nathan Countryman from the Mount Vernon Sun and Scott Ladwig and Amy Kloss on behalf of Cornell College.

Upon motion duly seconded, The Minutes of the meeting of February 6, 2021 were approved.

The design review item on the agenda is for discussion on approval of the proposed addition to the Cornell College Field House. Scott Ladwig and Amy Kloss gave a presentation which included numerous pictures of the proposed new facility. Scott also indicated that there would be an interactive display in the lobby of the building to present the history of athletics at Cornell. It was stressed that while this is a substantial addition to the athletic facilities, the over- arching purpose of this new structure, as well as the remodeling of other parts of the existing building is for the wellness of all students, as well as the community. The presentation was similar to a previous slide show when we met to discuss the pre-design review of the building.

Upon motion made by Ed Sauter, seconded by Guy Booth, a certificate of appropriateness for the project was approved.

Under old business, Leah indicated she attended the previous city council meeting and presented her summary of the annual report. She indicated that the counsel greatly appreciated the work that HPC does, and several members were very enthused about the website as it now exists. The efforts of Mary and Grace are well appreciated.

Leah also indicated that she is completing the annual CLG report and will get it in in the next week or so. Susan Hargus reported that Peter Ault is going to tender his resignation and will send it to Leah. We will need to notify the City Council that there will now be an open position.

There was no new business on the agenda. The next meeting will be March 6, 2021 at 9:15 a.m. It is anticipated this will be a Zoom meeting.

Respectfully Submitted, Guy Booth, Secretary
